About HeatSpec Guide

HeatSpec Guide exists because the number most heat pump pages lead with, a seasonal efficiency rating, answers a different question from the one a buyer in a cold climate is asking. A rating compares systems under laboratory conditions. Whether a system keeps the house warm at 5°F depends on its capacity at 5°F, which ENERGY STAR publishes and which almost nobody shows.

So every model page here plots the three heating capacities the dataset publishes, prints the record's ENERGY STAR ID so any figure can be traced, and says "not published" wherever the dataset is blank. There are no installed-price estimates, because the dataset has none and this site does not have verified price data.

Author

The HeatSpec Guide team. HeatSpec Guide is built and maintained by a small independent team. We compile certified equipment records published by ENERGY STAR, show the source and retrieval date for every figure, and publish the assumptions behind any calculation on the methodology page. We are not affiliated with, and not endorsed by, any of the organisations whose published data appears here.

Data and method

See the methodology page for every source, its retrieval date, and each editorial assumption that is ours rather than the dataset's.

Corrections

If a figure on any page does not match its ENERGY STAR record, that is a bug. Each spec table prints the record's ENERGY STAR ID and AHRI reference number, and the data file carries a version (2026-10-16) and a retrieval date, so a discrepancy can be traced to the row it came from.
